If  you're looking for something different, it's time to mine vintage hairstyles for more men's hair ideas. Here's an oldy but goody – the quiff(短头发, 前头竖起来一撮). By definition, the quiff is a combination of the 1950s era pompadour and flat top with a touch of the mohawk thrown in there too. Think James Dean, Morissey, and even Tin Tin. In recent years, the look has made a slight comeback有点回归趋势, as seen on Macklemore. The basic idea behind the quiff is a tall hairstyle worn with a point at the front and combed tight around the sides and back.  关于电影12 years a slave: "I want to curl up into a ball". or "I want to curl up and hide". or "I want to curl up and die/cry" "crawl up into a ball and cry". want to curl up and die 羞愧的要死, 羞愧的恨不得找个地缝钻进去 to feel very ashamed and sorry. to feel very embarrassed about something that you have said or done. I just wanted to curl up and die when I spilled coffee on their new carpet! I spilt coffee all over their precious new rug and I just wanted to curl up and die. When I heard you say that, I could have curled up and died. No, it wasn't an illness. She just curled up and died. I just want to crawl up in to a ball and die? That's how I feel. I'm not being emotional its been like this for months. I just want him to want me but he's never bothered, its killing me. Answer: Ah, one-sided love affairs单恋, 单相思, the bane of existence( the bane[bein]  of your life someone or something that is always causing problems for you and upsetting you. I have a sister who's always getting into trouble and expecting me to sort her out. She's the bane of my life. bane[bein] of my existence: It means an object of great annoyance to yourself. The word "bane" means; I. A cause of harm, ruin, or death or II. A source of persistent annoyance or exasperation. For example; during the time that a bike was my main mode of transportation, I'd often refer to "goat heads" or burrs as the bane of my existence because they were constantly puncturing holes in my tires when I had to drive near an area that was lots of weeds. I suppose you could use the phrase "bane of my existence" in reference to an ex-girlfriend who simply won't leave you alone. ). Try to get your balance back, because you are wasting precious time. Sometimes I really want to curl up in a ball and cry my heart/eyes out 蜷缩起来, 躲起来, 痛哭一场, 大哭一场. This feeling really sucks man. But its usually not worth it.! We should really cheer up. curl your lip 嘴唇翘起, 面露不屑 (literary) to lift one side of your mouth in an expression which shows that you do not like or respect something or someone. Don't you curl your lip at me, young miss! 网友评12 years a slave: One of the things that have been thrown around 传来传去 ( throw (your) money/cash around 挥金如土, 大肆挥霍, 大手大脚 = piss away, squander away informal disapproving to spend money, especially in an obvious and careless way, on things that are not necessary: He lost his job, but still seems to have plenty of money to throw around.) for months now is the notion that awards season voting bodies won't respond to it because it's too "difficult" to sit through(sit through sth 如坐针毡 to stay until the end of an event such as a meeting or performance that is very long or boring: We had to sit through two hours of speeches.). I've watched hundreds of films throughout my short 29-year history and I've seen some difficult cinema. Steven Spielberg's "Schindler's List" can make anyone quiver in shame as it shows the despicable reality of the Holocaust. Paul Greengrass' "United 93", which is almost an emotional biopic of America's darkest hour, makes me want to crawl up into a ball and cry. And finally, Mel Gibson's "The Passion of the Christ", one of the highest grossing films of all-time, shows the labor of our sins fleshed out 变得鲜活, 鲜活起来, 充实 into the beaten skin of an honest man(weather-beaten 风吹日晒, 久经风霜的, 风吹雨淋的 I. Damaged or worn by exposure to the weather. a tiny weather-beaten church. II. tanned or hardened by exposure to the weather. Lined or coarsened from being outdoors: a weather-beaten face.). And still, no one threw these hyperbolic terms out 抛出 saying, "it's too hard to watch.". Now when approaching the powerful film by McQueen and distributed by Fox Searchlight Pictures, there is a resounding honesty that McQueen and screenwriter John Ridley inhabit. There are no tricks or gimmicks, no cheap takes on a side story or character 分叉, 分支 that is put there for time filling 充数, 填时间 or a life-lesson for Solomon to learn. Everything is genuine. Is the film heartbreaking? Oh my God yes. Did I cry for several minutes after the screening? Embarrassingly so. I was enamored the entire time, head to toe, moment to moment. I have long admired the talent that's been evident in the works of Chiwetel Ejiofor. I've known he was capable of what he has accomplished as Solomon Northup and he hits it out of the park(hit one out of the ballpark I. (baseball) To hit a fair ball so well that the ball flies over all of the spectators' seats and lands outside the stadium. II.(idiomatic, by extension) To produce a spectacular achievement. The Canada Institute, part of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, has hit one out of the ballpark with its Montreal fundraiser. ). He has the urgency, worry, and drive to get home to his family and executes every emotion flawlessly even when all hope seems to be lost. Where he shines incredibly are the small nuances ( nuance (nju:ˈɑ:ns) I. A subtle or slight degree of difference, as in meaning, feeling, or tone; a gradation. II. Expression or appreciation of subtle shades of meaning, feeling, or tone: a rich artistic performance, full of nuance. ) that he takes as the story slows down, you notice aspects of Solomon that make him even more believable. As Edwin Epps, Solomon's last owner, Michael Fassbender digs down deep into some evil territory变得越来越邪恶. Acts as the "Amon Goeth" of our tale, he is exactly what you'd expect a person who believes this should be a way of life to behave. He's vile and strikes fear into not only the people he interacts with but with the viewers who watch. As Mrs. Epps, Sarah Paulson is just as wretched( [ˈretʃid] I. unhappy, unpleasant, or of low quality: a wretched childhood. The house was in a wretched state. II. used to express anger: My wretched car's broken down again. III. very ill or very unhappy: I think I must be coming down with flu - I've been feeling wretched all day.). Abusive, conniving ( [kəˈnaɪvɪŋ] describes a person who deceives others for their own advantage: He's a conniving bastard! ), entitled, and I loved every second of her. Hans Zimmer(作曲) puts forth a very pronounced score, enriched with all the subtle ticks that strike the chords of tone. Put the Oscar's in my hands我是奥斯卡评委的话, you have a dozen nominations reap for the taking. 剧情: They drug Northup and he wakes up in chains, about to be sold into slavery. Northup is shipped to New Orleans, and is re-named "Platt", the identity of a runaway slave from Georgia. Beaten repeatedly, he is ultimately sold by upscale, unrepentantly callous ("My sentimentality stretches the length of a coin") ( upscale of or for the upper end of an economic or social scale; up-market. Of, intended for, or relating to high-income consumers: an upscale neighborhood; upscale fashions.) slave-trader Theophilus Freeman (Paul Giamatti) to plantation owner William Ford (Benedict Cumberbatch). Northup manages to stay on good terms with Ford, a relatively benevolent 善良的( malevolent 坏心眼的) master. Northup engineers a waterway for transporting logs swiftly and cost-effectively downstream, and Ford presents him with a violin in gratitude以表感谢. Racist carpenter John Tibeats (Paul Dano) resents 愤慨 Northup, and begins verbally harassing him. The tensions between Tibeats and Northup escalate; Tibeats attacks Northup, and Northup fights back. In retaliation, Tibeats and his friends attempt to lynch Northup, but are driven away 赶走 by the plantation's foreman who leaves Northup to suffer in the noose( noose 绳套 A loop formed in a rope by means of a slipknot so that it binds tighter as the rope is pulled. Also called running noose.). Northup is eventually cut down by Ford and he later wakes up on the floor of Ford's house, being protected from Tibeats and his friends by Ford with a gun. Ford explains that in order to save Northup's life he must be sold to Edwin Epps (Michael Fassbender). Northup attempts to reason with Ford, explaining that he is actually a free man. Ford states that he "cannot hear this" and responds "he has a debt to pay" on Northup's purchase price. Epps believes his right to abuse his slaves is biblically sanctioned, and encourages the slaves to accept their allegedly predestined上天注定的, divinely-sanctioned fate by frequently reading to them various pro-slavery Bible verses, both real and fraudulent. Epps also requires each slave to pick at least 200 pounds of cotton every day, or be beaten. A young female slave named Patsey (Lupita Nyong'o) daily picks over 500 pounds and is praised lavishly, and coveted lustfully 垂涎三尺, by Epps. His wife (Sarah Paulson) is envious of the attention her husband pays to Patsey and violently abuses the girl at every opportunity after Epps publicly declares that 公开宣称 he'd choose the slave-girl over his wife, if forced没办法的情况下, 如果一定要选的话. Epps repeatedly rapes Patsey, who asks for Northup's help in committing suicide, but he refuses. Epps decides that the new slaves have caused an outbreak of cotton worm, a plague sent by God. He leases 租借, 出租 them to a neighboring sugar plantation for the season. While there, Northup gains the favor of 赢得喜爱, 赢得厚待 the plantation's owner, who allows him to play the fiddle at a wedding anniversary celebration and keep what he earns. When Northup returns to Epps, he attempts to use the money to pay a white field hand (field hand An outdoor worker on a farm. Field slaves were transatlantic slaves who labored in the plantation fields. They commonly were used to plant, tend, and harvest cotton, sugar, rice and tobacco.) and former overseer (Garret Dillahunt) to mail a letter to Northup's friends in New York. The field hand agrees to deliver the letter and takes the money, but betrays Northup. Northup is narrowly able to convince Epps that the story is a lie. Northup tearfully burns the letter, his only hope of freedom. One day, Epps becomes enraged after discovering Patsey missing from his plantation. When she returns, she reveals she was gone to get soap because Epps' wife refuses to give her soap to clean herself. Epps orders her stripped and tied to a post; encouraged by his wife. Epps forces Northup to whip Patsey. Northup reluctantly obeys but eventually Northup refuses to whip any harder. Epps takes the whip from Northup and continues to whip Patsey until "meat and blood flow equally血肉横飞, 血肉齐飞". As Patsey heals复原, Northup begins working on the construction of a gazebo with a Canadian carpenter named Bass (Brad Pitt). Bass earns Epps' displeasure 不高兴, 不待见 by expressing his opposition to slavery, but this convinces Northup to confide in Bass about his kidnapping. Once again, Northup asks for help in getting a letter to Saratoga Springs. Bass, risking his life, agrees to do that. One day Northup is called over by the local sheriff, who arrives in a carriage with another man. The sheriff asks Northup a series of questions to match him with the facts of his life in New York. Northup recognizes the sheriff's companion as a shopkeeper he knows from Saratoga. The man has come to free him, and the two embrace. Though Epps resists and Patsey is distraught, Northup leaves immediately, but not before giving Patsey one last hug. After being enslaved for 12 years, Northup is restored to freedom 恢复自由 and returned to his family. Concluding credits recount the inability of Northup and his legal counsel to prosecute or have convicted the men responsible for his being sold into slavery. Details surrounding Northup's death and burial remain a mystery as well.
