用法学习: 1. yellow brick road: The Yellow Brick Road is a fictional element in the 1900 children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by American author L. Frank Baum. The road also appears in the several sequel Oz books such as The Marvelous Land of Oz (1904) and The Patchwork Girl of Oz (1913). The road is first introduced in the third chapter of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. The road begins in the heart of the eastern quadrant called Munchkin Country in the Land of Oz. It functions strictly as a legit guideline that leads all who follow it, to the road's ultimate destination—the imperial capital of Oz called Emerald City that is located in the exact center of the entire continent. In the book, the novel's main protagonist, Dorothy, is forced to search for the road before she can begin her quest to seek the Wizard. This is because the cyclone from Kansas did not release her farmhouse closely near it as it did in the various film adaptations. After the council with the native Munchkins and their dear friend the Good Witch of the North, Dorothy begins looking for it and sees many pathways and roads nearby, (all of which lead in various directions). I think it's hilarious,' the show's co-hosts Samantha Armytage and David 'Kochie' Koch told her. The shocked reporter, who was turned away from the island by staff on arrival, told viewers she had never encountered anything like this in her 20 years of journalism. Still clad in her wedding dress and chandelier earrings, Ms Skuta was captured chomping down on a burger, unaware that her post-nuptial meal was being beamed onto the big screen. "I was kind of terrified when I first learned I was eating a cheeseburger on TV," the newlywed told the Star Tribune. Her new husband, a New Zealand resident, had originally hoped to make a debut on the big screen by holding up a sign that read: "I flew 8044 miles from New Zealand to be at this game (and to get married)." Whilst 'Slammin' Sam' was successful in making England's World Cup team, he was the target of fierce backlash when England became the tournament's first hosts to exit in the pool stage. He has since signed a three-year deal to return to the Rabbitohs, whom he helped guide to a drought-breaking premiership in 2014. 角力赛有多假: A professional wrestler appears to have produced concrete evidence that the sport is fake after flipping an opponent with his penis捏住对方的鸟. A New Zealand school principal says he has advised a pair of his students to get out of town after footage of them apparently "bullying" a disabled student went viral. The footage shows the boys kicking at the youngster's wheelchair, and then pulling it out from underneath him, causing him to fall helplessly to the ground. Predictably, the short clip sparked outrage online, with many commenters stating that the boys involved deserve to come to some kind of swift and fatal grief(A Californian teenager, purportedly caught on camera punching a blind student, has received swift and savage justice after another student intervened - knocking the bully to the ground with a right hook右勾拳.). But Vaughn Couillault, the principal of James Cook High in south Auckland, says the reaction to Tuesday's incident is ill-informed, overblown夸大了的, 放大了的, and has already had a disastrous impact on the students. "It didn't go well," Mr Couillault, who says the disabled student had "gotten in his classmates' faces" ( be/get in someone's face (slang) to behave in a confrontational or annoyingly direct or persistent manner toward someone. ) before the camera started rolling, told 3NEWS. "It went really badly on every level, actually. "However what that video doesn't show that as soon as it happened, the two boys involved in making it happen realised their wrong and instantly went to his aid and picked him up and got him some help," Mr Couillant said. "My advice to both of their sets of whanau (family) was to get them out of Auckland for a serious few months, because I have genuine fears for their safety." Mr Couillant says the unfortunate incident should be a lesson to keyboard warriors not to make judgements without any notion of the context. 过年回家: German supermarket EDEKA used a neglected grandfather figure to send an emotional message to German families this Christmas. Loneliness among the elderly appears to be a common theme in this year's Christmas commercials, with British department store John Lewis also dealing with the same issue in its ad. The John Lewis ad features a girl on Earth who looks through her telescope and sees an elderly man emerging from a shack on the moon.

A Gold Coast man has handed himself into police over an alleged unprovoked attack in which a Korean student was "coward-kicked" in the head. Security cameras recorded the disturbing assault and robbery, which took place outside a karaoke bar in the Scarborough Street mall late Sunday. The footage shows one alleged offender chatting with the students, as the other hovers behind the group before swiftly 快速的, 迅速的 kicking his victim unconscious. The alleged offenders then search the student's pockets and steal his phone and wallet. The student was taken to hospital for treatment and his injuries were not life-threatening. A 26-year-old Labrador man attended Southport Police Station yesterday after the video emerged of the alleged attack. He has been charged with one count of armed robbery and two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm. He will appear in Southport Magistrates Court today. Police yesterday described the alleged unprovoked attack as "sickening". "At approximately midnight two Korean nationals had just exited the karaoke bar… they sat on the footpath for a short period of time where two male offenders have approached them," Detective Acting Inspector Mark Proctor said. "One of these male offenders distracted the two gentleman while the other stepped behind him and delivered a swift kick 猛踢 to side of the head. "The victim was rendered unconscious immediately and the other victim was chased off 被赶跑." December 03, 2015: Security video has captured the sickening moment a Gold Coast student was knocked unconscious by a cowardly kick to the head. Insp. Proctor said he was keen to get the offenders "off the streets", and compared the alleged attack to coward-punching. "This is taking that to a whole new level… it's very sickening," he said. As gunmen stormed San Bernardino's Inland Regional Centre, one man calmly began shepherding terrified workers out, telling them "I'll take a bullet before you do, just be cool". The brave act 英勇行为 was caught on camera, filmed by customer service coordinator Gabi Flores on her mobile, as gunfire broke out about 11am. The man, believed to be a police officer or a centre security officer, can be seen attempting to clear a path 清出一条路 for a group of terrified employee who stand milling around ( mill around/about to move about in large numbers in a confused way with no particular purpose. a crowd of students milling around the library steps. ) in a hallway with their hands raised. "Try to relax, everyone try and relax," the man can be heard telling the group as the dangerous situation unfolds nearby. "I'll take a bullet before you do, that's for damn sure. "Just be cool, ok?" The footage of the extraordinary evacuation as the attack occurred was given to a local radio station and many have praised the actions of the man. "I sure hope that guy's face gets plastered over the internet ( plaster over something to cover over something with plaster. I think that we will just plaster over the cracks in the wall. ) more than the savages who attacked there today. True bravery in crisis," one person, Caleb Nelson, wrote on KPCC's website. Tony Abbott was snubbed by the Queen on his trip to London: After losing the prime ministership, Tony Abbott sought an audience 寻求会见 请求会见 with the Queen during his trip to London last month, but the request was declined. Mr Abbott, Australia's most famous monarchist and a former executive director of Australians for Constitutional Monarchy, was told that the Queen's schedule would not permit a meeting although she was in London at the time. Mr Abbott's unsuccessful bid is revealed in part 5 of Fairfax Media's Shirtfronted series on the life of the Abbott government. It also reveals that, on his last day in power, three of Mr Abbott's cabinet ministers discussed going to see him together to tell him his time was up. In the morning of the day of the coup, Christopher Pyne and George Brandis, both Turnbull supporters by this point, separately phoned Julie Bishop about going together to see the leader. She rejected the idea. Ms Bishop decided it had reached the critical point. It would be humiliating for a delegation to call on Mr Abbott. She decided to go alone. She arranged to meet him the minute he returned from a trip to Adelaide, shortly before noon, and told him he'd lost the support of the party. Ms Bishop still intended to vote for him until he later offered her job as deputy to another minister, Scott Morrison. At that, she considered herself no longer bound to vote for the leader. A few hours after Ms Bishop's call, Mr Turnbull went to see Mr Abbott to declare his challenge. Mr Abbott was startled 惊到, 吓着了, despite feverish media reporting and warnings from colleagues. He and his then chief of staff, Peta Credlin, had sometimes described Mr Turnbull in private as "another Peter Costello", all pose and no punch(虚张声势, 做做样子). They seemed to be convinced that he would never challenge. Mr Abbott, invited to give the Margaret Thatcher oration, was in London from October 26 to 28. The Queen's daily schedule, which is published by the Palace, shows that she had only two appointments on the 26th and was apparently free in the evening. On the 27th she hosted a morning reception and had an evening meeting with Britain's Prime Minister David Cameron but nothing in between. And on the third and final day of Mr Abbott's trip she had no appointments all day but gave a reception in the evening, according to her published diary. Mr Abbott once quoted Pascal in explaining widespread public support for the monarchy: "The heart has reasons that reason cannot know(The full quote as I know it: "The heart has its reasons which reason knows nothing of... We know the truth not only by the reason, but by the heart." - Blaise Pascal)." The former prime minister was careful to consult the Governor-General, Sir Peter Cosgrove, before approaching the Palace to make sure he was not breaching etiquette. He was encouraged to go ahead. Other former prime ministers have been granted audiences. It's not clear whether Mr Abbott had any particular purpose in his request, but he said in September that part of the Queen's appeal was as a symbolism of continuity: "The Crown is a fixed and stable point in a shifting and changing world." The first leadership spill against Mr Abbott was precipitated ( precipitate [prɪˈsɪpɪteɪt] I. Kendall Jenner and pal Hailey Baldwin flash their long legs 显示大长腿 in equally short outfits as they hit up the jewelry store in Beverly Hills It was girl time for Kendall Jenner and her gal pal Hailey Baldwin during a round of shopping at XIV Karats in Beverly Hills on Saturday. Kendall, 20, looked sexy yet chic in a light pink blouse partially tucked into her tight and thigh skimming skirt, fully exposing her long legs. Hailey, 18, meanwhile, opted for a more casual look with her sporty olive green shirt that had a plunging cut-out with a woven neckline protecting her modesty. The daughter of Stephen Baldwin put her long, runway legs on show in a light beige skirt, which was barely visible beneath her long green tee. She kept it comfortable with a pair of fluffy white boots and slicked her light locks back into a casual pony tail. Kendall hit another fashion high note with her suede [sweɪd] ankle boots, and she accessorised with a pair of aviator sunglasses and a grey purse in hand. Further glamming up the camera-ready outfit were the glossy silver-hued heels to her boots. Kendall combed her fingers through her dark brunette hair, which was swept over her head in a dramatic side part, adding a casual weekend vibe to the ensemble. Kendall's outing came just two days after the star posted a provocative picture of Instagram which featured somebody bent over, so only their rear end is visible, and flipping up their middle finger as they hold their arm between their legs. Keeping coy, Kendall captioned the picture mysteriously with an emoji of a question mark and a palm tree plus a flesh coloured square. However, on Saturday, it seemed Tyga and Kylie had kissed and made up. Posting a Snapchat of their legs entwined on Saturday, the 18-year-old made it clear that the drama was all over.
