This new use probably arose on the assumption that non- was the normal negative prefix and must therefore have a negative meaning. It is not considered part of standard English. In recent North American English nonplussed has acquired the alternative meaning of "unimpressed". In 1999, this was considered a neologism, ostensibly from "not plussed", although "plussed" by itself is not a recognized English word. The "unimpressed" meaning is proscribed as nonstandard by at least one authoritative source.). 2. 守门员搞破坏: A Swiss goalkeeper plying his trade in Germany has pushed the boundaries of sportsmanship with a sneaky act of sabotage prior to a penalty kick. School captain uses farewell speech to slam elite Sydney Ravenswood school: The school captain of one of Sydney's most prestigious schools has used her farewell speech to slam the school that "let her down". In a 13-minute speech that has been watched by thousands on YouTube, outgoing captain Sarah Haynes told a crowd of parents, students and staff that while she still loved Ravenswood School for Girls, it wasn't perfect. The 18-year-old criticised the North Shore school, where parents pay up to $28,000 in fees per year, for being driven 金钱驱动 by financial concerns. "I don't know how to run a school but it seems to me that today's schools are being run more and more like businesses where everything becomes financially motivated, where more value is placed on those who provide good publicity or financial benefits," she said. Ms Haynes, who hopes to study medicine, accused senior staff of censoring her speeches to protect the school's distinguished image. "Everything I wrote had to be censored by those higher up than me," she said in her speech. "I was never trusted to say the right thing." Ms Haynes said she was told to change part of her speech for a school open day 开放日 earlier this year where she said the school wasn't perfect. "I sent this to those in charge of me and received a reply: 'Great speech but change the ending. No parent wants to hear that the school isn't perfect'," she said. Ms Haynes said her speech was not a personal vendetta 个人恩怨 after her sister left Ravenswood earlier this year but she hoped the school would listen to her comments. "We learn from mistakes," she said. "The only dangerous thing about mistakes - which I think Ravo may have lost sight of this year - is not being able to recognise and admit to them. "I am far from the model student. I have been kicked out of geography class, I've had a detention and I've said things that have hurt people," she said. Ms Haynes told Fairfax media that her speech got a standing ovation from the students but the reaction from staff was "reserved". Her parents were "a little shocked" by her decision to speak out but they supported her, she said. "It was definitely taking a risk but I respect the girls in my community too much to be insincere so I took that risk," she said. Ravenswood school council chairman Mark Webb denied to Fairfax media that Ms Haynes' speeches had been censored by the school. "Girls have the right to express their individual opinion," he said. 演讲说: "关于她妹妹离校 About half way through this year at a time when my family and I needed Ravo the most, it let us down," she said. "I
know there have been rumours and gossip about my sister leaving the
school and I'd rather not add fuel to the fire but would prefer to say
the people I trusted and respected made an unjustified, cruel and
incorrect decision." He could not comment directly about Ms Haynes'
speech as it related to a matter before the courts (it's about court case). "Ravenswood School may be the subject of media commentary over the
coming days as a result of a speech made at the Secondary School Speech
Day ceremony last week," Mr Webb wrote. "This is
unfortunate because it detracts from the Year 12 celebrations, but it is
seemingly unavoidable. "As this relates to a matter before the courts,
it is not possible for us to comment on the specifics other than to say
this relates to a disagreement about disciplinary action taken against a
number of students following an incident of alleged bullying." 后续: News.com.au understands Ms Haynes' sister was dismissed 被退学(expel, expulsion) from Ravenswood over allegedly bullying a student. "I was delighted that she felt able to speak her mind and I generally enjoy students sharing how they are really feeling," Dr Hawkes told news.com.au. "I have never put a blue pencil ( blue-pencil 裁剪, 审查 censor or make cuts in (a manuscript, film, or other work). "holding up each paragraph for preliminary blue-pencilling". A blue pencil is a pencil traditionally used by an editor or sub-editor to show corrections to a written copy. The colour is used specifically because it will not show in some lithographic or photographic reproduction processes; these are known as non-photo blue pencils. For similar reasons, sometimes red pencils are used since their pigment will not reproduce by xerography. With the introduction of electronic editing using word processors or desktop publishing, literal blue pencils are seen more rarely, but still exist in metaphor. The "blue pencil test" is used by courts of law as a method for deciding whether contractual obligations can be partially enforced. Blue pencil is also used pejoratively to mean censorship. The blue pencil doctrine is a legal concept in common law countries, where a court finds that a portion of contract 部分合同不成立, 无法执行 is void无效的 or unenforceable, but the other part of the contract is enforceable. In that case the court may order the parties to follow the enforceable part and can delete the voided portion. Unlike the curate's egg [ˈkjuərət; v: -'reɪt], which if bad should be discarded, the Blue Pencil Rule allows the "good bits" to be kept and the "bad bits" to be deleted. However, the revised version must represent the original meaning; one may not use the Rule to (say) delete the word "not", and thereby change a negative to a positive. A "curate's egg" describes something that is mostly or partly bad, but partly good. In its original context, the term refers to something that is obviously and essentially bad, but is euphemistically described as nonetheless having good features 有好的一面 credited with undue redeeming power. Its modern usage varies. Some authorities define it as something that is an indeterminate 说不准的, 没定数的, 不一定的 mix of good and bad 好坏参半, 毁誉参半 and others say it implies a preponderance of bad qualities. I generally find the influence from the young can be refreshing 耳目一新的 and honest. "On the other hand, I was greatly disturbed by what was reported about the speech because I don't agree with the assertion made that independent schools are more interested in their image than the truth. "One couldn't help but feel there was an element of personal vendetta 个人恩怨 associated with the speech, possibly associated with 有关联 the removal of her sister for alleged bullying." "There is a huge [public] appetite for attacks on leading schools, and certainly this has been the case on this occasion," Dr Hawkes said. "I believe this to be most unfortunate and unfair. Leading institutional providers are rendered almost impotent to rebut stories of this nature 这一类的(rebut [rɪˈbʌt] 反驳, 驳斥 to show or say that something is not true.), because the student is young and the student is a girl. These typically combine to make her immune from criticism. "If there was any response from the institution, it is generally seen as bullying. Andrew Orth, who was Taylor's next-door neighbour for more than a decade, told New Idea that the 25-year-old singer has been faking love with her string of A-list beaus, including John Mayer, Harry Styles and Calvin Harris. "I don't think Taylor is girlfriend material," Andrew, a photographer, said. "I don't think she'll ever be. "Taylor is about Taylor…I just think she has a very large ego, and right now, her ego couldn't be bigger. There may be the idea in her head that she needs some companionship for publicity." Andrew goes even further, saying she probably won't have a true romance until she's in her late 30s or 40s...and it likely won't lead to a trip down the aisle. "She's not going to get married," he added. "She's not going to do any of those things. I just don't see it at all. "I don't mean these things derogatorily toward Taylor, but she's almost asexual. She's just not really a sexual being." He places much of the blame for that on Taylor's mum Andrea, who he says disapproved of her daughter baring any skin 露肉 and didn't want her to use her sexuality to become successful. "It's sort of like they took all that potential to be a sexual being 性感尤物 out of her," he said. So when Taylor is ready for love in, say, 10 years or more, who does Andrew think the lucky guy will be? Well, first of all, wrong gender. "I think Taylor will find a good woman in her life, a very Ellen DeGeneres kind of relationship partner," he explains. "And in Taylor's mind, I think that'd suit her just fine. "Look at the hand-holding with [Calvin] – they're about three feet apart. And then take a look at some of the shots where she was hanging out with Karlie Kloss. Look at how their bodies are literally touching – they're all over each other." Taylor and Karlie have been besties since 2013, and last year they set the rumour mill on fire when they were reportedly spotted kissing on a balcony. Added Andrew: "When I saw that, I thought: Great Taylor! Finally, you've found someone you can show emotion with and find love." 19岁男孩吸毒而死, 妈妈说: 'More than anything I want something good to come of this tragedy.
