Doulas work in homes, hospitals and birth centres. Since Wojton filed her own lawsuit Chase-Marshall has faced serious online backlash, seriously damaging her career and reputation as a doula, as she largely advertises and finds work online. Microsoft admits expiring-password rules are useless: Microsoft has admitted that one of the great scourges ( [skɜːrdʒ] noun I. a whip. II. A scourge is something that causes a lot of trouble or suffering to a group of people. Union chiefs demanded more urgent action to stop the scourge of unemployment. There have been great advances in treatments for global scourges such as cancer and Aids. Verb I. to whip someone. II. If something scourges a place or group of people, it causes great pain and suffering to people. Economic anarchy scourged the post-war world. [VERB noun]) of our time, the password reset rule, is bunk ( I. A bunk is a bed that is fixed to a wall, especially in a ship or caravan. He left his bunk and went up on deck again. II. If you describe something as bunk, you think that it is foolish or untrue. [informal, disapproval] Even those who think psychoanalysis is bunk might find that lying on a couch being listened to is worthwhile. do a bunk 不告而别, 不辞而别 If you do a bunk, you suddenly leave a place without telling anyone. [British, informal] ). "When humans are assigned or forced to create passwords that are hard to remember, too often they'll write them down where others can see them," Microsoft's Aaron Margosis wrote in a blog post Wednesday. Worse, Margosis wrote, when people are forced to change their passwords, too often they make a "small and predictable alteration to their existing password," or they'll just forget it. 2. upper middle bogan: Oh Mum! Did you see what she just did? Cover your mouth, love. What if I get sick? After how many hurdles I had to jump through (go/jump through hoops = leap through hoops to do a lot of difficult things before you are allowed to have or do something you want. To put forth effort to meet (usually arbitrary) requirements set by someone. They really made the salesman jump through hoops before buying anything. If someone makes you jump through hoops, they make you do lots of difficult or boring things in order to please them or achieve something. He had the duty receptionist almost jumping through hoops for him. But to no avail. ) to get this interview. Hoops. You jump through hoops, you climb over hurdles( hurdle I. a frame or fence for jumping over in a race: He fell at the last hurdle. She cleared (= jumped over) all the hurdles easily and raced to the finishing line. II. a race in which people or horses jump over hurdles: the 400-metre hurdles. III. a problem that you have to deal with before you can make progress: Getting a work permit was the first hurdle to overcome. The cost of this exercise is proving to be a major hurdle. There are still a few technical hurdles to be surmounted 跨越 before the product can be put on sale to the public. Getting planning permission for the building was only the first hurdle. She overcame many hurdles 克服重重困难 to get to where she is today. He knew that many hurdles stood between him and success. We've overcome all the major hurdles. verb. to run in a race in which there are hurdles to be jumped over, or to jump over something while running: He hurdled the gate and scrambled up the hill. wiki: Hurdling is the act of running and jumping over an obstacle at speed. In the early 19th century, hurdlers ran at and jumped over each hurdle, landing on both feet and checking their forward motion. After experimenting with different step patterns the 3-step for high hurdles, 7-step for low hurdles, and 15-step for intermediate hurdles was decided on. In the sport of athletics, hurdling forms the basis of a number track and field events which are a highly specialized form of obstacle racing. In these events, a series of barriers known as hurdles are set at precisely measured heights and distances which each athlete must pass by running over. Failure to pass over, by passing under, or intentionally knocking over hurdles will result in disqualification. Accidental knocking over of hurdles is not cause for disqualification, but the hurdles are weighted to make doing so disadvantageous. Hurdle design improvements were made in 1935, when they developed the L-shaped hurdle. With this shape, the athlete could hit the hurdle and it will tip down, clearing the athlete's path.). And you smack in the head. Ow! Amber! Don't dent the cling wrap. Why are you letting her infect everyone like she's Gwyneth Paltrow in that movie where she carks it? Is that that Sliding Doors one? I like that one. Honey, if you were gonna get sick, it would've happened by now 早就已经...了. Thanks for your sympathy. 3. Gendry is the last living bastard son of King Robert Baratheon, who throughout his childhood was unaware of his lineage ( linage in British or lineage 血统(身份) [ˈlɪndʒ] 祖辈. the people in your family who lived in the past, especially when you come from a rich or important family. She's very proud of her ancient royal lineage. Despite his lineage and qualifications, he was a modest man.). Gendry did not receive the bastard surname used in the Crownlands (Waters) because, like the rest of his half-siblings, he was not openly acknowledged by Robert. blindsided mainly US, disapproval If you say that you were blindsided by something, you mean that it surprised you in a negative way. He complained about being blindsided by the decision. When you are struck by surprise from an unexpected direction, you are blindsided, as if from your blind side. Do not be confused by the many punning titles using the deliberate misspelling "blindsighted" into using the latter spelling for this meaning.

Calibration of load cells in Weighing Applications: Assemble the scale. Power up the source. Mark this as "Zero Weight". Put on your weight (generally 1/2-3/4 of scale capacity). If it is for commercial use you will have to use certified weights. Mark this point as your "calibration" point. Then you have a scale to work off of. Honestly, a cheap weight indicator would save a lot of time/effort depending on what you are doing. To check if the transducers and load cells are functioning properly, the following should be evaluated: Does the weight indication return to zero when the system is empty or unloaded? Does the indicated weight double when the weight is doubled? Does the indicated weight remain the same when the location of the load changes (uneven loading)? If the answers are yes, the cells and transducers are probably in good condition and need no attention. Before the load cell calibration, the mechanical system should be examined and the load cell installation checked for the following: Inspect the load cell cables, and coil and protect any excess. The load should be equally distributed among multiple load cells of multiple load cell installations. If they differ by more than 10%, the load should be rebalanced and adjusted with shims (shim 支一下, 硝子, 楔子. [ʃɪm] noun I. a thin packing strip or washer often used with a number of similar washers or strips to adjust a clearance for gears, etc. a washer or thin strip of material used to align parts, make them fit, or reduce wear. "an aluminium shim reduces the diameter so that a standard stem will fit". II. physics a thin strip of magnetic material, such as soft iron, used to adjust a magnetic field. Verb. to modify (a load, clearance, or magnetic field) by the use of shims. wedge (something) or fill up (a space) with a shim. "display monitors were shimmed up on cardboard". wiki: A shim is a thin and often tapered or wedged piece of material, used to fill small gaps or spaces between objects. Shims are typically used in order to support, adjust for better fit, or provide a level surface. Shims may also be used as spacers to fill gaps between parts subject to wear.  ). When calibrating, installing, or removing a cell, the vessel 器具, 称重器具 should be lifted without unloading or overloading the other cells. The design of the system should provide for jacking and the horizontal removal of the cell. Dummy load cells should be used in place of operational ones until all construction and welding are completed. The calibration of the vessel requires hangers or shelves to support the calibration weights. For an ASME vessel, they must be added when the vessel is fabricated. Calibration to an accuracy of 0.25% full scale or better is usually performed with dead weights(I. A dead weight is a load which is surprisingly heavy and difficult to lift. He hoisted the dead weight over his shoulder. II. You can refer to something that makes change or progress difficult as a dead weight. ...the dead weight of traditional policies. III. someone who cannot be lifted easily because they are sleeping, unconscious, or dead. a heavy or oppressive burden. "she'd drag my father's dead weight from wherever he'd fallen". ) and is the only calibration method recognized by weights and measures agencies. All load cell calibration experiments start by zeroing the system: During deadweight calibration, the vessel is evenly loaded to 10% of the live load capacity using standard weights 标准砝码. The weight indication is recorded and the weights are removed. Next, process material is added to the vessel until the weight indicator registers the same (10%) weight as it did with the calibration weights. Now the calibration weights are loaded on the vessel again and the reading (now about 20%) is recorded. These steps are repeated until 100% of capacity is reached. Live weight calibration is a novel and faster method, which uses pre-weighed people instead of calibration weights. The procedure is identical to deadweight calibration. This method should not be used if there is a risk of injury. The "material transfer" method of load cell calibration uses some other scale to verify weight. This method is limited by the accuracy of the reference scale and risks some error due to possible loss of material in transfer. A master cell can also be used for calibration as long as the master is about three times more accurate than the accuracy expected from the calibrated system. The load cells calibration procedure involves incremental loading and the evaluation at each step of the output signals of both the calibrated weighbridge and of the master load cell. The number of divisions used and the method of applying the force (hydraulic or servomotor) is up to the user. If a load cell system is causing problems, four tests can be conducted: Mechanical Inspection: Check the load cell for physical damage. If it has been physically deformed--bent, stretched or compressed relative to its original shape--it is not repairable and must be replaced. Look for distortion or cracks on all metal surfaces. Flexure surfaces must be parallel to each other and perpendicular to both end surfaces. Check all cables along their entire length. Nicked 剪断的 or abraded 擦毛边的 cables can short out a load cell (abrade To abrade something means to scrape or wear down its surface by rubbing it. My skin was abraded and very tender. nick I. British, informal If someone nicks something, they steal it. He smashed a window to get in and nicked a load of silver cups. We used to nick biscuits from the kitchen. II. British, informal If the police nick someone, they arrest them. The police nicked me for carrying an offensive weapon. Keep quiet or we'll all get nicked. III. If you nick something or nick yourself, you accidentally make a small cut in the surface of the object or your skin. When I pulled out of the space, I nicked the rear bumper of the car in front of me. A sharp blade is likely to nick the skin and draw blood. He dropped a bottle in the kitchen and nicked himself on broken glass. IV. [US, informal] If you are nicked by someone, they cheat you, for example by charging you too much money. College students already are being nicked, but probably don't realize it. noun I. British, informal The nick is a prison, or a police station. II. A nick is a small cut made in the surface of something, usually in someone's skin. The barbed wire had left only the tiniest nick just below my right eye. in good/excellent/bad etc. nick in good/very good/bad etc. condition. ). Zero Balance (No Load): Shifts in the zero balance are usually caused by residual stress in the sensing area. Residual stresses result from overloading the cell or from repeated operation cycles. With a voltmeter, measure the load cell's output when there is no weight on the cell. It should be within 0.1% of the specified zero output signal. If the output is outside the zero balance tolerance band, the cell is damaged but perhaps correctable. Bridge Resistance: Measure the resistance across each pair of input and output leads. Compare these readings against the specification of the load cell. Out-of-tolerance readings are usually caused by the failure of one or more elements, typically the result of electrical transients or lightning strikes. Resistance to Ground: Connect all the input, output, sense and ground leads together, and measure the resistance between the load cell body and the leads with an ohmmeter. The reading should be at least 5,000 megaohms. If the load cell fails this test, repeat the test without the ground wire. If it still fails, the load cell requires repair. If it passes, the problem may be in the load-cell cable. It is usually the infiltration of moisture that causes short circuiting (current flow) between the load cell's electronics and the cell body.

How to Calibrate Load Cells: When it comes to industrial scales, one of the most important components is proper calibration. Unfortunately, the process to calibrate most scales is arduous and complicated, which can spell significant revenue loss for growing companies. Does My Scale Need to be Calibrated? If you're unsure of whether your scale needs to be calibrated, it's important to follow a few steps to determine if conditions exist that could warrant the need for calibration: Different weight readings based on where an item is placed – If you're experiencing significantly different weight readings based on where an item is placed on your scale platform, this could point to your scale needing to be calibrated. Be sure to check to ensure your scale platform is level, to ensure the load cell is able to move properly to achieve an accurate reading. Weight readings that don't settle 读值不稳定 – If you place an item on your scale and the display indicator never seems to settle, you obviously have a problem. Before assuming your scale needs to be calibrated, make sure that your scale is not on any type of surface that's vibrating or being exposed to any type of air currents, which could affect the accuracy of weight readings. If you've determined that your scale needs to be calibrated, follow the following steps: Selecting a test weight value – The test weight that you choose should be within your scale constraints, typically around 50% of the maximum capacity. Remove any objects from the scale platform – Ensure that there are no objects on the scale platform and that nothing is coming in contact with the underside of the scale platform, which could affect the load cell calibration process. Place the test item on the scale – You'll now be asked to place the test item on the scale platform. When doing so, make sure to place the item in the center of the scale platform. Wait for a few seconds to ensure the scale has stabilized and press Enter.
